
Monthly Programs
Each month the Club meets for a light lunch, short program and a business meeting. Our meetings are now held at the Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville, DE with the exception of the December meeting which will be held off-site. Guests are always welcome to join the meeting (see Calendar for more details). **When in-person meetings cannot be held, programs are subject to change.

September 10, 2021 - "The Art of Bonsai"
Location - By Zoom Meeting
Presenter - Jim DeBastiani, Member of the Brandywine Bonsai Society, Self-Taught in the Art of Bonsai
Program Details - Bonsai is the art of growing certain trees and shrubs, of many varieties, in small, shallow containers. It is through careful, precise training and pruning that the plant is slowly shaped and manipulated to give the appearance of an older, mature tree. Jim will focus on the basics of bonsai; tools; finding a tree; trimming and styling, and soil.

October 8, 2021 - "Select Gardens of Western Europe"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenters - Master Gardeners Maureen Ryan and Gaye Mara
Program Details -Tour four unique gardens in Europe. Travel through a Portuguese winery garden, Monet's garden in Giverny, an English garden with an interesting history and a seasonal explosion of color in The Netherlands.

November 12, 2021 - "African Violets and Their Gesneriad Cousins"

Presenter - Barbara Borleske – Barbara is a longtime member of the African Violet Society of America and the Gesneriad Society
December 10, 2021 - "Annual Holiday Luncheon"
Location - Victoria's Restaurant, Boardwalk Plaza Hotel,
2 Olive Ave. at the Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971

Program Details - Come celebrate the holidays with your GBTS friends.
Members will pre-order from a special menu. Cost: $TBD per person.
January 14, 2022 - "De-Stressing after the Holidays – Yoga and Meditation"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenter - Pat Wood, a longtime GBTS member, and a dedicated yogi
Program Details - Pat will lead GBTS members in some gentle exercises which help bring peace to the mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. Dress comfortably and bring your yoga mat and/or blanket. You can also remain seated in your chair.
February 11, 2022- "Paper Roses Program"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenter - GBTS Founder Lisa Arni
Program Details - This hands-on program will show you how to make roses from paper. Please bring some non-toxic glue such as Elmer's school glue or Tacky glue and scissors, very important. All other supplies will be available for your use. Roses may be used for home decorations or for a pretty package decoration.
March 11, 2022 - "Birdscaping"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenter - Donna Price, East Coast Garden Center
Program Details - Attracting birds to our yards continues to be a popular activity that often goes hand-in-hand with a love of gardening. Our program this month emphasizes the importance of plants, trees, and especially native plants for seeds and our pollinators. We'll learn about the 3 critical elements to successful birdscaping -- so that our bees don’t continue to disappear, we can provide a place where butterflies have somewhere to lay their eggs, and also ensure the birds can feed their young.
April 8, 2022- "Orchids and Installation of New Officers"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenter - GBTS Founder Lisa Arni
Program Details - How to keep Orchids blooming and happy. Several types of orchids will be discussed and optimal care instructions. Good information for both the beginner and experienced grower.
May 13, 2022- "How to Make Floral Ice Bowls and Edible Apricot Roses"
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Presenter - GBTS member Ria Carraro
Program Details - Ria will demonstrate how to make floral ice bowls and edible apricot roses that will certainly prove to add beauty to any table setting.
June 10, 2022 - Annual Plant Sale and Auction
Location - Evans Park Community Center, 32417 Dukes Dr., Millville
Schedule - 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Setup will begin in the morning. Both the Garden Sale and the Plant Auction begin at 11:30 am. Food trucks will be available for snacks. All sales are cash or check only. *Please do NOT park in the fields!

We hope that we achieved our goal this year of growing our Garden Club’s future through our active membership that sprouted new ideas from our hands-on challenges and concentrated membership speakers’ programs.
